THE ARCHIVES: Chapter 330


The guidance counselor drove me
to West Campus.
It is on the edge of town,
practically in the middle of nowhere,
so the ride took forever.
The note for Lindsey
burned a hole in my pocket.
I could look at it,
and nobody would ever know.
But whether I looked at it
or not,
I knew they would accuse me
of looking at it anyway.
I tapped my fingers against the paper.
Maybe if I looked closely,
I could see the words
without unfolding it.
But what if there’s something
in this note
that I don’t want to know?
