THE ARCHIVES: Chapter 207

Through the Darkness

I started to fall asleep
as I lay beside Gary.
An afterimage of the key
created a pattern in my head.
The earth churned
beneath me,
and I dreamed that I was far away,
although the light on at school
kept winking at me,
calling me back.
When I did finally come out of sleep,
an hour had gone,
and everyone had gone
except my ex-crush.
He was staring at me
through the darkness,
his hand stretched out
as if reaching for me,
but headlights turned into the driveway.
My mom’s car.
Gary darted over
to say goodbye.
