Jagged

The key rested on the grass,
and I tried to memorize
the jagged pattern of its teeth.
Moonlight shone over it
like it was a treasure,
then I saw something etched
into the key.
It looked like an S.
So familiar…
where have I seen it before?

Gary interrupted my thoughts
with a kiss.
“Get a room,” Lindsey muttered.
I heard her turn over. The key
moved on its chain.
“I don’t know why she showed up,”
Gary sighed into my ear.
“I think she invited herself,” I replied,
but she no longer fazed me.
I wanted the key.
