Jealous of a Liar
She noticed me.
We stared at each other
for a long time.
(At least, it felt like a long time.)
All my carefully planned words
evaporated like steam.
“You’re a liar,” I said.
She folded her arms
over her chest, as if to stop
shrinking into herself.
I knew it was all fake.
“You’re just jealous,” she hissed.
“Jealous of a liar?” I demanded.
My voice was rising
in hysteria.
It was hard to control,
something slippery trying
to escape my grasp.
Lindsey bit her lip hard
until it turned as red as a villain’s
in a fairy tale.
