THE ARCHIVES: Chapter 73

A Lasting Effect

He spoke through his tears.
He talked about the Columbine killers
and how they were supposedly
bullied
until they decided to kill.
He had forgiven them for murdering
his son.
Nobody said a word throughout his speech.
Silence hung over us like a shroud.
Even the two guys on either side of me
were quiet.
I wondered if the speech would have a lasting effect.
Would we all get along after this?
Would Maddy and Amanda quit bugging Lindsey?
Would whoever defaced my locker
own up to what they did?
Or would the speaker’s words
just fade away
in time?
