THE ARCHIVES: Chapter 64

Fire

That night,
I lay down and dreamed.
I’m in the driver’s ed car.
Alone.
I’m on the road to my school,
but
I’m flying through every
red light.
The speedometer reads
90,
creeps up to 100, past
100.
The car halts in front of the school.
It’s burning.
The whole building is on fire. The flames
dance
into the sky, turning the sky many different
colors,
and that’s when I realized
the fire
had been falling from the sky the entire time
as if
the clouds had become soaked in gasoline,
and the stars
were pinpricks of flame from cigarette lighters.
