I was terrified.
Driver’s ed was
my worst nightmare
or a bad teen horror movie.
Once my hands were in the right
position on the wheel,
my teacher said,
“Now try parking
in any of these spots.”
He waved his hand
out to the empty parking lot.
I inched forward at less than five miles an hour,
and crawled like a frightened turtle into a parking space.
When we went out of the car to inspect
its position, I found the car over the line,
and apparently, I could not judge distance.
My teacher sighed.
It was going to be a long session.
