Two Ice Queens
Three days passed before
the trucks came with salt
to melt the ice on the roads.
I didn’t get any closer
to figuring out who went through my locker
because it was already obvious.
It must have been Maddy and Amanda.
I saw them so clearly in my head:
their weasel smiles,
their glacial glares,
the frost of eye shadow coating their upper lids,
the way they swing their butts to grab attention,
the icicle tips of their fingernails…
The two ice queens.
But it will take way more than salt
and warmer temperatures
to make them melt.
