THE ARCHIVES: Chapter 40

Courage

I went to the library
because I knew I’d find him there.
Maybe just one glance at him
would give me needed courage.
He doesn’t seem to be a
courageous person,
but then again, it takes courage
to uphold silence in the midst of noise.
Sure enough,
there he was,
head bent over a book,
hand running through his hair.
It took courage for me to interrupt him.
I never thought I had that courage.
I whispered his name,
but when he looked up,
the bell rang,
and I darted out the door.
So much for courage.
