The Thursday Three #31

  1. I’m behind on NaNoWriMo already and don’t know when I will catch up. This is breaking my heart in a big way because I don’t normally get behind on writing challenges (unless it’s Camp NaNoWriMo, but I don’t care as much about that). But I have to remember the main premise of NaNo: to get down on paper (or the computer) something that has been lurking in your head for a long time, not necessarily to have finished it or achieved the word count goal. So if I get at least halfway through the story, I’ll be all right. 🙂
  2. After hearing many good things about Pope St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body, I have finally gotten around to reading about it (Christopher West’s Theology of the Body for Beginners). For a long time, I have had the theory that the world is in its sad state because of the misuse/abuse of the creative power of sex, and reading the book has made me grateful that someone else has had the same thoughts as I have had. May the countercultural revolution continue!
  3. This is the best anti-political ad I’ve seen yet. So simple, so effective. I hope Hefty’s sales increase greatly. Hefty Ad

  1. I’ve written nowhere near 1667 words on day two or day three, but I’m still ahead because of day one. I have not gotten out of the new NaNoWriMo habit of writing daily. If I stick to that, it will get done. Eventually.

  2. I don’t do NaNo, but I agree that the most important thing is to get the words down on paper. If the word count becomes the main thing, then (it seems to me) that the focus is in the wrong place. Ten (or five or two) years from now, what will matter the most? The words, not the count.

    1. Right–and NaNo novels are rough drafts anyway, so all the words you type will end up being transformed so much that your word count is pretty much meaningless.
