Two Writing Memes

Almost every meme I post on this blog comes from Vickie’s deviantART page. The following two are no exception.

Meme #1

First, list all your original characters (OCs) by first name, so we can see your list of all your wonderful OCs:

All of them? That’s quite a few. But I’ll go with 10 or so: Adrian, Sam, Eliza, Rachel, Peter, Aeron, Sarah, Leah, Andrew, Abbye

Who is your favorite OC?

That’s a hard choice. From the list above, I’ll have to say Peter.

Who is your least favorite?

Adrian. He is pure evil.

Who is your most developed?

Rachel, hands down. I’m always whining about her on Twitter.

Which OC would you want to date if they magically came to life?

Probably Sam. Peter’s too dangerous. Andrew would be a bit too smart for me.

How many girl OCs do you have? Boy OCs? It OCs?

I want to say it’s about equal… although I don’t have any “its” unless you count animals.

If you were stuck in a burning building what do you think the third OC on your list would do?

Call 911, but I doubt she’d be calm enough to speak to the dispatcher clearly. Eliza’s a nervous, jumpy character.

Name one thing you regret about one of your OCs.

Letting Leah get beaten up by Ray. She did not deserve that.

Which of your OCs do you think would make the best father/mother/it parent out of all your OCs and why?

Either Andrew or Sam; they’re both smart and kind. Although Andrew can be a bit of jerk when he wants to. Sam knows what he wants out of life, he’s patient, and there are a lot of interesting lessons he could teach a child.

Which of your OCs do you think will most likely be put in jail?

Adrian, Aeron, Peter (They’re the villains.)

The eighth of your OCs was put into the future! What will their job be?

Leah goes into the future… I suppose she could help create subliminal advertisements that get stuck inside peoples’ heads. (I imagine advertising to be far more aggressive in the future.)

Name the first OC’s catchphrase!

Vote for me!

Do all your OCs live together or are they separated?

Leah and Sarah live together because they’re sisters. Rachel and Eliza were roommates at one point, as were Adrian and Aeron.

Are there any pairings that are in your OC list?

RachelXAdrian, SamXEliza, RachelXPeter (my favorite), RachelXAeron (Rachel has her way with almost everyone), RachelXAndrew, ElizaXAdrian, SarahXPeter (an epic failure)

Your seventh OC switched bodies with you for a day! How will they react at the end of the day?

Sarah switches bodies with me? I don’t think she’d be too happy. Most of her physical assets will be gone, but by the end of the day, she’d be glad that she was in a body that had never been pregnant.

Your last OC just became a fifteen-year-old. What do they do?

Abbye. I’m pretty sure she was fifteen when I started writing about her… she got herself into a lot of trouble because of a certain picture she sent to her then-boyfriend. I imagine she’d try to do things differently than she had done them in the past.

Now randomly select a person on your OC list. Who was it?

That OC you just chose? They think they are superman (even if they are a girl) and are on the roof about to jump off.

Not a question, but whatever… Nobody would catch her when she fell. I imagine that the only way Sarah would think she was superman is if she was on drugs, which is a possibility for her. I can see Leah (and perhaps Kayla, her best friend) trying to convince her to step off the ledge.

Are any of your OCs bored of this meme?

Probably Adrian. He thinks he has better things to do with his time.

Would your second OC prefer the beach or the mountains?

Sam wouldn’t care, but I think in the end, he’d like the mountains.

Would your tenth OC battle a shark?

Abbye and a shark… nah, that wouldn’t work. She’d get eaten alive.

Which OCs hate each other?

Adrian hates Rachel, Peter, Aeron, Eliza, Sam… pretty much everyone on the list. Sarah and Rachel hate each other (mainly out of jealousy). Rachel hates Leah (jealousy again). Peter and Andrew hate each other.

Which OC did you create first? And last?

First: Technically, Sam. I invented him when he was an annoying little kid. Then he somehow turned into a well-behaved young man. Last: Abbye. I’m still in the process of getting to know her.

And if those two were fighting, who would win?

I can’t see them fighting, honestly. But if they ever got into an argument, Sam would let Abbye win. She can be a little vicious when she wants to be.

Are your OCs fat or skinny?

A mix of both.

What are your first 2 OCs’ favorite foods?

Sam’s not picky, but he probably likes ravioli. Adrian likes anything that comes from a cow.

Tag three or more people.

I never tag. If you want to do the meme, take it.

Meme #2 (This one is more about writing itself than about characters.)

What led you to write?

People thought I was a decent writer. Writing is fun and therapeutic.

When did you start writing?

When I was about 9.

What does writing represent in your life?

My anger management program.

Are you happy with your current style?

Do you do editing?

I do it for a living. Probably explains why I’m hesitant to edit any of my own fiction.

Do you read about writing (creative writing books, grammar books…)?

Yes, all the time. I’m obsessed!

Favorite genre?

I don’t have one. I read pretty much anything.

Favorite author(s)?

Stephen King, Tanith Lee, Anne McCaffrey, William Faulkner… the list goes on and on.

Favorite book?

Way too many to list.

What do you prefer to write?

Stories that take place in high school, with lots of drama and angst.

Is there anything you can’t write?

Westerns. Mysteries. Historical romances.

What is the weirdest thing you have ever written?

Probably a scene from XIII where the characters got stuck in a Salvador Dali painting.

Choose a topic: love, death, friendship. Now write a couple of lines about it.

To love someone is not to use them as a means to your end. The love you have for each other must be the end in itself.

Do you think you have influences from any professional writer? if so, which ones?

I’m not really sure about that.

Worst book you have read so far?

I wrote a whole blog post about it. Captive Bride by Johanna Lindsey.

Why is it so bad, in your opinion?

So many reasons. The blog post is here.

Choose one of your characters and describe them in 3 words.

Um… Aeron: conflicted, powerful, insecure

Does your character feel “alive”?

It depends on what point in the story we’re seeing him. But most of the time, I would say that he does not.

Could you kill this character?

No. He’s worked too hard to overcome his problems. I think the reader would be rooting for him in the end.

Do you hate any of your own characters?

Quite a few. Adrian being the one I hate most. He’s just so thoroughly steeped in hatred.

Now, let’s be honest. Every writer has their own favorite creation: what’s your favorite story, out of everything you have written/planned to write? and character?

Favorite story: XIII: Strophe. Favorite character: Rachel, Peter, X… I have quite a few favorites.

Have you ever abandoned an idea for a story? Why?

I abandon ideas all the time, mostly because they wouldn’t logically work… or they’re too far out there.

Have you ever deleted a whole piece of work? Why?

I never completely delete anything. I’m a packrat, that’s why. And I know that if I delete something, at some point I’ll inevitably wish I hadn’t gotten rid of it.
