I enjoy Christmas music, but I’m not one of those people who can constantly listen to it in the car or at home or wherever. Like Christmas chocolates and cookies, the music is only good in small doses. Here are my favorite Christmas songs of all time:
“Little Drummer Boy” – Even though there was probably no little drummer boy present when Christ was born, I still like the image of one child humbly playing drums to herald another’s birth.
“Sleigh Ride” – It has to be the instrumental version. For some reason, the lyrics irk me.
“Adeste Fideles” – AKA, “O Come All Ye Faithful,” I like it best in Latin.
“The Twelve Days of Christmas” – I like the meaning behind the song, which I didn’t realize existed until this year. I had always thought it was a fanciful song. Whether it’s an urban legend or not, I still think it’s pretty cool.
“Il est né le Divin Enfant” – In English, it’s “he is born, the divine child” and it’s a lovely song, even though if you translate it to English, the lyrics don’t exactly fit the tune.
I hate to say it, but most non-religious Christmas songs like “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” get on my nerves, especially when they’re played ad infinitum in every store you walk into.
So… what are your favorite (and least favorite) Christmas songs?
