My Blogiversary!

This shall be a post in which I get a little nostalgic…

It’s amazing how fast a year goes by. My blog’s anniversary is tomorrow. I originally wanted this blog as a way to record my life after graduating college. I wanted it to be career-focused, but more or less like an online diary. But it became more than that. About a month after I started the blog, I decided I no longer wanted my life online anymore. Instead, I decided to write about things that would interest others, and because I’m obsessed with writing and reading, why not make those two things the focus?

The first non-spam comment I ever got on this blog was rude and quite disheartening. But instead of curling up in a ball and crying about it, I kept writing. I revamped my blog and decided to post every weekday. I read a few books and articles about blogging and learned more about what can make a blog successful or not.

In September 2010, I was Freshly Pressed, so it felt as if my work on this blog had paid off. But it wasn’t just getting Freshly Pressed that made everything worthwhile. It was the thoughtful comments I was getting, finding others who have similar interests, learning how to write for the web, and having smart conversations online. Thank you very much to all who regularly visit and comment on this blog – it means so much to me! πŸ™‚

I check my site stats every day, and whether I get one hit or a hundred hits, I’m happy with this blog and what I’ve learned by sharing it. It’s my favorite “online hangout.”

  1. Many many happy returns! (I like hanging out here, too. πŸ™‚ )

I think a lot of blogs end up being different than the original idea, which is fine. My blog was originally supposed to be just about my writing, but now it also includes some movie reviews, some stories, and a few other things, too.

  2. you bring on positive information, in an easy to read format. I enjoy reading your blogs. Now, I need to get on the ball and write more often…. but life gets in the way sometimes. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Nada! There’s way too much negativity on the Internet, so I like to be positive and balance it out.

  3. Congratulations! Like many of your other readers what attracted me is your positive attitude. And you are so nice to others. I think this is the right occasion to say that. Keep on writing! Celebrate many more blogiversaries!

  4. Happy blogiversary Maggie! Your posts are always useful, fun and well written and I hope we’re here again next year wishing you another happy milestone.

  5. Hey Maggie happy blogiversary girl πŸ™‚ I visited your blog a few days back (commented too) and found it simple, cheerful and nice. Being new to the blogosphere, I can relate to what you wrote. I’ll be back! My son just got my red lipstick.
