Whether you’re going through a hard time or not, this anthology is a great find. Garrison Keillor, of The Writer’s Almanac, has compiled a wonderful mix of poetry, from contemporary free verse to the sonnets of Shakespeare and Donne.
There are 185 poems in the volume and each is fairly short. They’re also easy to understand, which is a relief for all of us who are tired of reading hopelessly convoluted poetry. All of these poems express the beauty of life, even in its saddest and darkest moments.
Or, if you don’t want to buy the book, get a free email subscription to The Writer’s Almanac. You’ll get a new poem delivered to your inbox each day, along with some interesting events in literature and history.
Reading just one poem a day can make your writing better. 🙂
