100-Page Script in 30 Days? Challenge Accepted.

I’ve decided to join the madness of Script Frenzy this year. I’m a total n00b. I’ve never written a script in my life. I’ve never even read a script in my life. I am not the biggest movie fan. Most references from popular movies are totally lost on me. I have never seen Titanic, Forrest Gump, or Sixteen Candles.

But I’m writing a script. It’s a horror script, even though I don’t really like watching horror movies. (Well, I don’t like the ones where there are more “startle” moments and gore than anything else – which is most of them these days.) Out of my element? Yes. But that’s the fun of it.

I’m enjoying this script so far. It’s clicking along quite nicely, probably because I planned the entire thing out in advance. I know I’d be hopelessly lost without planning… and without Screenwriting for Dummies.

Needless to say, it’s very different from writing a novel. There have been so many times when I’ve been tempted to insert a character’s thoughts in my script only to remember… this is a movie. The audience isn’t going to hear or care about this character’s thoughts. They want to visualize. There’s got to be action.

But I’ll keep pressing on… and restraining the urge to insert stream-of-consciousness thoughts!

So… is anyone doing Screnzy this year? Have you done it in years past?

  1. Good luck! 🙂 I’m rooting for you!
I’ve never done Screnzy before. I kind of want to at some point because I imagine it’s probably as awesome as NaNoWriMo, but this year things got in the way. Maybe next time.
